Body of missing Wisconsin father found inside crashed car in Rosemont

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. — Authorities say the body of a Wisconsin father who went missing on Wednesday night has been located following a two-day search.

According to New Berlin police, the body of 45-year-old Ben Oberto was located on Friday afternoon after authorities found his silver 2019 Subaru Impreza overturned in a creek along the curve of the I-90 eastbound ramp to I-294 northbound, in Rosemont, near Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.

Just before 4 p.m. Friday, Illinois State Police (ISP) troopers located the vehicle, which appeared to have crashed into the creek.

RPD divers then located a deceased driver, who was later identified as Oberto, inside the vehicle.

Authorities said Oberto’s vehicle was the only car involved in the crash.

Oberto’s loved ones became concerned after he failed to return home from work on Wednesday night.

Oberto, a father of two, had last been seen around 8:56 p.m., leaving the 1776 Restaurant in Crystal Lake where he worked as a wine sales representative.

“Ben was not just my husband; he was a loving father, a cherished son, a caring brother, and a true friend to so many. His vibrant spirit, loving heart, and unmatched generosity left an indelible mark on every life he touched,” Oberto’s wife Laura said in a statement on Saturday. “As we mourn this profound loss, let us also celebrate the love and joy he brought into our lives. I encourage everyone to share their favorite memories and stories of Ben, as they will help us all feel his presence in the days to come. I hope to honor his life and the legacy of love he leaves behind.”

An investigation into the deadly crash is now underway by Illinois State Police.
