A fatal crash involving four vehicles on eastbound Highway 4 in Pittsburg shut down all lanes Friday morning. A severe traffic alert was issued at 5:33 a.m. before all lanes were reopened over three hours later.
The crash occurred west of Railroad Avenue. Eastbound traffic of Highway 4 was diverted off at Bailey Road during the closure. All lanes were reopened at 9 a.m.
According to CHP’s incident log, a disabled vehicle was blocking the middle lane before another vehicle collided with it. Four vehicles in total were involved in the crash, including a white Hyundai sedan, a blue Toyota Camry, a silver Toyota Camry and a blue Dodge Ram.
CHP said that each of the vehicles had adult male drivers with no passengers. The man in the Hyundai was killed in the crash and was determined not to be wearing a seatbelt. The drivers of the Camrys had minor injuries, while the Dodge’s driver was uninjured.
Alcohol or drugs are not suspected as being a factor in the fatal collision, according to CHP.
