Pickup truck driver dies after rear-ending parked tractor-trailer in fiery crash on I-95 in Belcamp

BELCAMP, Md. — A pickup truck driver was killed in a fiery crash Tuesday morning that shut down Interstate 95 in Belcamp through the afternoon, according to Maryland State Police.

State police said troopers were called around 6:30 a.m. to the northbound lanes of I-95 near mile marker 81.9 near the Maryland Route 543\Riverside Parkway exit, where a pickup truck rear-ended a tractor-trailer parked on the right shoulder.

All lanes of I-95 northbound are closed as firefighters used foam with the assistance of a tanker truck to battle the fire, Harford County fire officials said.

The pickup truck’s driver died in the crash. Their name was withheld pending family notification.

No other injuries were reported.

Traffic was been jammed through the afternoon as the northbound lanes remained closed for an investigation and cleanup. Some traffic got by slowly through the Maryland House rest area parking lot. It was recommended that commuters use U.S. Route 40 as an alternate route.

The Maryland Transportation Authority said shortly before 1:30 p.m. that all northbound lanes reopened.
