AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - A man was pronounced dead after driving his car underneath a parked semi-truck trailer on an Akron highway, the fire department confirmed.
Akron police and EMS were sent to the accident on I-77 north from OH-8 north at the Central Interchange at 8:21 p.m. on Dec. 23, Akron Fire Department Public Information Officer Lt. Robert Langston stated.
Langston said the car was driven underneath the semi and pinned against the guard rail.
The car was heavily damaged, and a crane had to be used to lift the trailer off the car, according to Langston.
The 40-year-old man driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene, Langston confirmed.
His name has not yet been released.
It is unknown if the driver died as a result of the crash, or may have suffered a medical emergency just before.
Langston said no further information is available at this point in the investigation.
