A 26-year-old woman from Vermont was killed in a hit-and-run in the Catskills Wednesday, shortly after crashing her car and escaping a fiery blaze.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2014 Subaru was traveling southbound on Interstate 87 in the town of Catskill, when the vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons and subsequently struck the median” near Exit 21, New York State Police said in a statement.
The driver of the car, identified Thursday as Sara Llorens of Burlington, Vt., managed to escape the Subaru before it burst into flames, but was soon struck by a vehicle traveling northbound.
Llorens was found dead in the roadway around 4 a.m., while the driver of the unidentified vehicle that hit her had already fled the scene.
Authorities are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact the Catskill police.
