Troopers: 1 killed, 4 hurt in I-26 pileup in Laurens County

LAURENS COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said one person is dead and four people were hurt in a multi-vehicle pileup crash in Laurens County Wednesday night.

According to troopers, a tractor trailer was stopped on I-26 east near mile marker 60 followed by a Toyota sedan and a Lincoln sedan. A Chevy coupe was backing into the emergency lane when a freightliner hit the Lincoln sedan and caused a chain reaction.

Officials said the driver of the Lincoln sedan passed away and three passengers, including a seven-year-old, were taken to the hospital by EMS and helicopter with injuries. The driver of the Toyota sedan was also taken to the hospital.

There were no other injuries reported.

The Laurens County Coroner’s Office identified 73-year-old Anthony White of Piedmont.

The incident is being investigated by South Carolina Highway Patrol and the coroner’s office.
