Indianapolis, IN – Good Samaritan Killed in I-70 Ramp Collision

Indianapolis, IN (February 9, 2024) – Justin Lavelle Dobbins, 22, was fatally struck while aiding a stranded driver on an I-70 westbound ramp. The Indiana State Police reported that Dobbins responded to a call for help from a motorist with a disabled vehicle, partially blocking the ramp lane, on Friday, February 9. As Dobbins attempted to move the vehicle to safety, a passing car hit both him and the disabled vehicle.

Indianapolis firefighters attempted life-saving measures, but Dobbins died at the scene. The Marion County Coroner’s Office is aiding in the investigation. The driver who struck Dobbins stayed and cooperated with authorities, undergoing a toxicology test as mandated. Initial findings suggest that neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the accident. Crash reconstruction experts are further examining the details of the incident.
