Rayne pedestrian killed in Terrebonne Parish crash

TERREBONNE PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Louisiana State Police Troopers are investigating a car crash that left one pedestrian dead and another injured on Thursday, Feb. 29.

LSP leaders said around 5 a.m. troopers began investigating a single car fatal crash involving pedestrians on U.S. Highway 90 eastbound near milepost 192.

An initial investigation revealed a prior crash occurred when an eastbound car on U.S. Hwy 90 struck a large object in the roadway that had fallen from a commercial vehicle. The crash resulted in the car becoming disabled in the roadway.

Following the crash, 37-year-old Benjamin Credeur of Rayne and another pedestrian were standing near the disabled car as an eastbound 2008 Honda Civic approached.

The driver of the Honda attempted to avoid hitting the disabled vehicle, but lost control before striking Credeur and the other pedestrian.

Credeur suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other pedestrian was taken to an out-of-area hospital with moderate injuries.

The driver of the Honda was properly restrained and was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

According to the LSP, the driver of the Honda was determined to not be impaired and voluntarily submitted a routine toxicology sample.

This is an on-going investigating.
