GRAY COUNTY, Texas (KVII) — A stranded truck driver probably saved his own life by diving under his trailer to keep from getting hit by another semi on I-40.
The crash happened after 7 p.m. near Groom.
According to DPS, a semi broke down at mile marker 122.
The driver got out to inspect his tractor trailer and put out traffic cones to warn other drivers.
That’s when another eastbound semi rear ended his big rig.
Amazingly, he saw it coming and was able to get out of the way just in time.
A Lifestar helicopter landed on I-40 and transported him to the hospital.
The other driver and the passenger in first truck suffered non-life threatening injuries.
DPS, the Gray County Sheriff’s Office, Gray County EMS, Hoover VFD, Groom Fire, Clarendon Fire, Clarendon EMS, and McLean Fire all responded to the crash.
