PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — A crash involving a semi-truck ended with a pickup truck catching on fire in west Phoenix late Wednesday night. The collision happened on westbound Interstate 10 near 67th Avenue at 11:30 p.m.
Authorities say a pickup truck had its emergency lights on and was stopped on the freeway because of mechanical issues. A semi-truck driver then struck the pickup. The crash caused the truck to catch on fire, with flames quickly engulfing it.
Troopers say the pickup truck driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Arizona’s Family crews witnessed fire crews fighting the heavy flames and thick, black smoke.
The freeway was temporarily shut down but reopened later Thursday morning. Trooper say the semi-truck driver will be cited.
