Interstate 89 at Exit 11 back open after a multi-vehicle crash

WILLISTON, Vt. — Interstate 89 North is back open at Exit 11 after a tractor trailer jack-knifed on the roadway and caused a multi-car crash.

The Vermont Agency of Transportation said I-89 Northbound at Exit 11 (French Hill Road) was shut down due to multiple crash scenes, slide offs and snowy conditions.

I-89 Southbound at Exit 12 was briefly closed but reopened at 11:13 a.m., according to VTRANS.

According to Vermont State Police, the driver of the tractor-trailer was traveling too fast for current conditions, which included heavy snowfall and snow-covered roads. Investigators said several other vehicles were forced to make emergency stops, causing additional crashes, including a sprinter van crashing into a tractor-trailer unit and a dump truck going off the median.

A passenger vehicle also crashed into a tractor-trailer unit, with a second tractor-trailer also sliding off the roadway.

One person was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center for treatment of suspected minor injuries.
