Man killed in wreck on I-85

A man was killed in a wreck on I-85 early Saturday morning, the Belmont Police Department said.

Josiah Wheeler, 25, was driving in the far left lane of I-85 South at about 1:45 a.m. when he suddenly saw a disabled vehicle in his lane that did not have its lights on, according to a police press release.

Wheeler was unable to avoid the vehicle and struck it in the rear. The driver, 65-year-old Jackson Munsey, was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

I-85 South was closed to traffic for approximately seven hours during the investigation.
