SAN ANTONIO, TX, (March 21, 2024) - A 63-year-old man was fatally injured when he was hit by a vehicle while attempting to change a flat tire Thursday night in San Antonio.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, Mauro Mendoza Santos was operating a Ford F-350 pickup truck with a trailer attached in the 4500 block of U.S. Highway 281 southbound when he stopped to assist the driver of a Dodge Dart change a tire at approximately 9 p.m. Around that time, a southbound Toyota 4Runner crested a nearby hill, collided with the trailer attached to the Ford, and careened into the Dodge. After impact, the Dodge then hit a Mazda 5.
Santos was struck during the crash, launched off of a nearby bridge, and sadly declared deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Dodge was hospitalized with abdominal injuries.
