Two dead in Kansas City after crash with KCFD vehicle, semi on I-435

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two people have died in Kansas City, Missouri, after being hit by a Kansas City fire vehicle and a semitrailer Friday morning.

Investigations revealed that a red Nissan Versa was stopped for unknown reasons in a lane of eastbound Interstate 435, just east of 103rd Street.

The driver of a KCFD Ford Explorer that was also headed eastbound rear-ended the Nissan.

As the vehicles came to a stop, a semitrailer then hit the Nissan.

The rear seat passenger of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene. The front seat passenger was taken to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

The driver of the Nissan and the driver of the Ford were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. They are both in stable condition. The driver of the semi was uninjured during the crash.

All lanes of I-435 eastbound were closed to traffic at Holmes for 4 hours. The highway has since been reopened.

The crash is still under investigation.
