Disabled vehicle hit by pickup truck in Georgetown County; one dead: SCHP

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — The driver of a disabled vehicle died after being struck by another vehicle in Georgetown County Saturday evening.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP), the collision occurred at approximately 11 p.m. on US Highway 701, near Lucy Grier Drive.

Troopers say a 2005 Nissan Ultima was traveling south when it became disabled in the first lane. A 2017 GMC Sierra pickup truck traveling south then struck the disabled Nissan Ultima. The driver of the Nissan Ultima, who was the sole occupant, was transported to Georgetown Memorial Hospital and succumbed to their injuries.

The driver and passenger of the GMC Sierra were not injured, according to the SCHP.

The collision is under investigation by the SCHP. The Georgetown County Coroner’s Office will identify the deceased.
