19-year-old found dead in SUV near quarry after vanishing on drive home, CO cops say

A 19-year-old reported missing after vanishing on her drive home has been found dead near a quarry, Colorado police say. Leslie Elizama Vicente Vicente traveled about 60 miles north of her Aurora home to Island Grove Regional Park in Greeley to attend a religious event Thursday, June 13, the Greeley Police Department said in a June 19 news release.

She left the park shortly after 9 p.m., stopped for gas in a neighboring city about 35 minutes later and headed back on Highway 85 in her Nissan SUV, according to police. However, police said Vicente Vicente never made it home that evening.

Six days later, police said a Weld County gravel quarry worker noticed “signs that a vehicle went into a body of water near the quarry” in Fort Lupton close to Highway 85 and Weld County Road 22. The worker called 911, and multiple agencies responded to search the water, police said. After divers recovered a body from the submerged SUV, police said the Weld County Coroner’s Office identified the body as Vicente Vicente.

As Vicente Vicente and her SUV were found in Fort Lupton police’s jurisdiction, the agency will investigate the incident, according to the department.
