Box truck hits disabled vehicle, winds up on railroad tracks off I-89 in Middlesex, DMV says

MIDDLESEX, Vt. — A box truck wound up on some train tracks near Interstate 89 in Middlesex near the border of Montpelier following an incident with another vehicle.

The Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles said that the box truck crossed the fog line on I-89 south at 8:39 a.m. and struck a disabled vehicle in the breakdown lane.

The crash pushed the disabled vehicle into a ditch and caused the box truck to leave the roadway and come to rest on the nearby railroad tracks about 30 yards away.

The driver of the disabled vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and the commercial driver was not injured, according to the DMV.

I-89 south continues to be closed to one lane as crews work to recover the box truck from the railroad tracks. Those tracks are currently closed to rail traffic and the removal of the vehicle will require additional equipment, according to officials.

The DMV said road and track delays are expected until 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

More details will be provided when available.
