Driver killed, 2 people injured in 4-car crash on I-30 near Benton

One person was killed and two more were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 30 near Benton on Friday morning, a preliminary fatality report from the Arkansas State Police states

Jacob Benedict, 29, of Benton died about 6:09 a.m. after the 2017 Nissan Altima he was driving west on I-30 struck the rear of a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado that had just hit a concrete barrier, the report states. A cloud of dust from nearby construction was obscuring the interstate at the time, investigators wrote in the report.

The wreck resulted in a pileup, with a trailing 2018 Ford F-250 hitting the rear of Benedict’s Nissan and a 2021 Nissan Rogue hitting the rear of the Ford.

The crash injured the driver of the Ford, 52-year-old Gregory Macon of Conway, and a passenger in the Nissan Rogue, 56-year-old Lisa Mitchell of Benton. They were taken to an area hospital for treatment.

A trooper investigating the wreck reported that the weather was clear and the road was dry at the time.
