Rear-end crash kills two in Northern California

(FOX40.COM) — Two people died on Wednesday afternoon after their vehicle was rear-ended by a pickup truck in Northern California, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP said the crash happened on Highway 70 heading north near Montgomery Street in Oroville around noon.

The agency said a Volkswagen, which had two people inside, stopped on the roadway when it was rear-ended by a Ram pickup truck.

Both people inside of the Volkswagen were pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said.

The pickup driver had minor injuries, which CHP credited to the driver wearing their seatbelt.

Images of the crash show the back of the white Volkswagen demolished as the trunk, rear headlights, and rear doors are completely gone, showcasing the intensity of the impact.

Pictures of the red Ram pickup truck show moderate damage to the front gate and left headlight.

CHP did not specify whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
