TURBOT TWP. — A vehicle veered off Interstate 80 on Monday and struck a vehicle parked behind a tractor-trailer, sending debris into the mechanics changing a flat tire, according to state police.
Trooper Matthew Lesher of the Milton State Police said a 2023 Volvo driven by Giorgi Jabinashvili, 34, of Manalpan, N.J., was traveling northbound when it hit the Ford F-250 Supercab parked behind the tractor trailer. The impact sent debris into Richard A. Hamlin, 22, Jersey Shore, and Tristan M. Outzen, 20, of Williamsport, who suffered suspected minor injuries, Lesher said. Both declined treatment.
More debris came off the Volvo and struck the 2023 Freightliner. Occupants of the tractor-trailer, Estell Navarro, 23, and Dathan J. Eschete, 22, both of Houston, Texas, sustained suspected minor injuries and were transported to Evangelical Community Hospital for treatment, state police said.
Jabinashvili’s vehicle continued off the roadway, up an embankment, reentered the roadway and struck an embankment off the southbound side of the highway before stopping and blocking the left lane of Interstate 80 Westbound, police said.
Jabanishvili was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, according to state police. Troopers said he would be charged with a driving on roadways laned for traffic violation.
The crash shut down all lanes of Interstate 80 near mile marker 213.6 for more than three and a half hours on Monday, forcing a traffic detour using Routes 147 and Route 254 (Broadway Road) in Milton.
