Husband dead, wife hospitalized after SUV hits disabled semi on Ohio Turnpike

MILAN, Ohio (WTVG) - A man is dead and his wife was hospitalized from a crash on the Ohio Turnpike in Ottawa County Wednesday, officials said.

According to Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened in Ottawa County, near milepost 82 in Harris Township, around 12:40 p.m on July 31. A semi was disabled in the middle lane due to a mechanical problem when a Lincoln SUV rear-ended the semi.

The passenger in the SUV, 92-year-old Kenneth Klingshirn, from Elyria, died from his injuries. His 78-year-old wife, the driver, was hospitalized with minor injuries. The 37-year-old driver of the semi from Maryland was treated at the scene.

The center and left westbound lanes on the Ohio Turnpike at milepost 81.9 were closed while crews cleaned up the crash site, but have since reopened. The Milan Post of OSHP continues to investigate the incident.
