Sandusky man, 13-year-old among 3 killed after fiery crash involving semi-truck

A Sandusky man and two passengers including a teenager were killed after a crash involving three vehicles in Seneca County Thursday morning, authorities said.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the incident happened on County Road 24 in Scipio Township just before 11 a.m. Troopers say a driver operating a Ram Promaster ran a stop sign at State Route 18 and hit a Ford pickup truck driven by 41-year-old Joseph Miller. A semi-tractor-trailer then struck both vehicles, sending them off the corner of the intersection before both vehicles overturned.

Troopers said the semi-truck struck a utility pole and Miller’s pickup truck caught fire.

Joseph Miller and his passengers, 67-year-old Sandusky resident Richard Miller and 13-year-old Conner Miller, both from Vickery in Sandusky County, died at the scene as a result of their injuries.

The driver of the Ram was airlifted to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the semi-truck also suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized via ambulance.

Troopers say the crash remains under investigation.

Editor’s note: A previous press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol listed Richard Miller as the driver of the Ford pickup truck. The OSHP corrected the press release Friday afternoon to reflect that the truck was driven by Joseph Miller.
