HAMMOND, Ind. (WLS) – A deadly crash shut down the westbound lanes of I-90 in northwest Indiana on Thursday.
The crash happened around 2:26 a.m. on the Indiana Toll Road between Clen Avenue and Kennedy Avenue.
The driver of a grey 2004 Honda was driving westbound when it crashed into the center concrete barrier, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
After the crash the car ended up in the westbound lane, facing north and the driver got out of the car.
Shortly after, a silver 2020 Honda SUV crashed into the grey car and struck the driver.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lake County Coroner.
His identity has not been released.
Authorities identified the driver silver SUV as 20-year-old Luke Coffey. He was treated at the hospital before being released.
Toxicology reports are pending.
Westbound lanes of the Indiana Toll Road were closed for most of Thursday morning rush hour.
All lanes reopened by 9:13 a.m. after the conclusion of on-scene crash investigation.
