Moped driver killed after hitting disabled car along road

MONTCALM COUNTY, Mich. — A man who was riding a moped is dead after crashing into a disabled vehicle along the road in Montcalm County.

Deputies say the crash happened at 9:15 p.m. Sunday on S Greenville Road. A 60-year-old Greenville man was riding a Yongfu moped southbound when he rear-ended a Chevy Traverse that was disabled along the road.

A witness told deputies that a car also traveling south had been passing the moped at the time of the crash. Deputies say the passing car caused the moped driver to move into the shoulder area before hitting the car.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies say he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

There was no one inside the disabled car.

The car that was passing the moped did not stop, and the witness was unable to describe the car to deputies.

This crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office.
