Stopped vehicle hit on interstate; one person hurt

AUBURN — One driver was taken to an area hospital with multiple injuries following a two-vehicle crash just before 10 p.m. Sunday near the 322 mile marker on Interstate 69 northbound, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Arthur Stevenson Jr., 69, of Louisville, Kentucky was found by police laying on the ground in the driving lane of the interstate. Deputies shut down the interstate while Stevenson was being treated by EMS personnel.

According to police, Stevenson’s 2024 Subaru Crossfire was on the side of the road when it was struck by a northbound 2019 Freightliner Cascadia, driven by Ahmed Ibrahim, 34, also of Louisville.

Ibrahim told police he didn’t see Stevenson’s vehicle until it was too late, according to a crash report. Ibrahim said the Subaru was partially in the roadway and did not have its lights on.

Ibrahim was not injured.

Police estimated damage to Stevenson’s Subaru to be $33,000. Damage to Ibrahim’s Freightliner was estimated to be $10,000.

County police were assisted by Indiana State Police, the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, Fort Wayne Police Department, Auburn Fire Department, Huntertown Fire Department, Parkview EMS and DeKalb County Central Communications.
