HAMILTON CITY, Calif. — The bodies of two men were found inside a vehicle submerged in the Glenn Colusa Canal on Wednesday. The California Highway Patrol in Willows (CHP) says the vehicle is connected to a recent Silver Alert missing persons case.
On Saturday, July 20, the Yuba City Police Department (YCPD) reported two men missing, identified as James Adams, 89, and Ronny Adams, 57. They said both men were considered missing “at-risk” due to medical conditions requiring ongoing treatment. Police say the two men were last seen driving a blue 2004 Lexus RX330.
Then, 11 days later, at around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 31, the CHP says a deputy from the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) contacted CHP’s Willows office saying he discovered evidence of a vehicle submerged in the Glenn Colusa Canal.
Highway patrol officers and members of the GCSO’s Dive Team responded to the scene and recovered a 2004 Lexus from the murky water. Inside, they say two men were found deceased.
The CHP says the ‘04 Lexus was determined to be associated with the missing persons report from the YCPD 11 days earlier. However, the CHP says there was no evidence available to determine how long ago the crash occurred. Additionally, the CHP has not yet identified the two decedents.
CHP Investigators believe the Lexus was being driven north on County Road 203, south of County Road 9, at a high-rate of speed. They say there were indications that the vehicle left the eastside of the roadway, followed by an overcorrection by the driver. CHP says the vehicle then veered back to the west, crossing both lanes of Co. Rd. 203, and continued to the northwest before striking a large tree and coming to a rest in the canal.
