69-year-old found dead 7 weeks after she vanished on way to see friend, Oregon cops say

A missing 69-year-old woman was found dead nearly two months after she was last seen driving to visit a friend in Oregon, police said. Kathleen Wilson’s body was found in her crashed vehicle Sept. 25 off Oregon Route 138, the Myrtle Creek Police Department said in a Facebook post.

The McMinnville woman had been staying at the Millsite RV Park in Myrtle Creek, police said. She left at about 6 a.m. on Aug. 5 to meet her friend in Chiloquin. Chiloquin is about a 140-mile drive southeast from Myrtle Creek.

Friends and family reported her missing when she never reached her destination.

She wasn’t found until an Oregon Department of Transportation employee spotted her car crashed down a steep embankment near milepost 53 — seven weeks after her disappearance, police said. Troopers responded to the scene and confirmed the red 2012 Chevy Cruz belonged to Wilson, and her body was inside the car, police said. Police said she had been driving eastbound on the highway when she crossed the lane and went off the road.

Her body has been turned over to the medical examiner, and next of kin has been notified of her death, police said. Myrtle Creek is in southwestern Oregon, about a 90-mile drive south from Eugene.
