Syracuse, N.Y. – Seven vehicles crashed on Interstate 690 in Syracuse Sunday night after a driver slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting a disabled car, police said.
Around 7:41 p.m., a 2022 Toyota was driving east on I-690 when the driver tried to avoid crashing into the disabled vehicle on the side of the highway, Kieran Coffey, a city police spokesperson, said Monday.
The crash happened between the Interstate 81 interchange and Exit 14 (Teall Avenue).
A 2021 BMW driving behind the Toyota collided with rear of the Toyota, Coffey said. Four other vehicles also crashed, he said.
The disabled vehicle was not involved in the crash, Coffey said.
Two people were taken to Upstate University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Coffey said.
No arrests were made and no tickets were issued following the crash, he said.
