Motorcyclist killed after hitting box truck in crash

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A motorcyclist was killed Monday in a crash near Otay Mesa, authorities said.

The collision occurred around 4:40 a.m. on Enrico Fermi Drive northbound, located north of Otay Mesa Road, Salvador Castro with the California Highway Patrol said in a news release.

A 20-year-old Chula Vista man was riding a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle when for unknown reasons the rider struck a yellow box truck that was disabled and parked along the east curb, according to authorities.

The impact of the crash caused the rider to be ejected onto the roadway. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene due to major injuries.

Authorities shut down Enrico Fermi Drive northbound to investigate.

A toxicology report is pending to determine if alcohol/and or drugs played a role in the crash.
