Gilbert, AZ – Fatal Crash on Loop 202 at Lindsay Rd

Gilbert, AZ (January 4, 2025) – A deadly collision involving two vehicles occurred Friday night on Loop 202 South Mountain near Lindsay Road, leading to significant traffic disruptions in the westbound lanes. The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to the scene to investigate the incident.

According to officials, the crash began when one vehicle lost control and struck a barrier wall on the right shoulder, coming to rest perpendicular to the roadway and blocking multiple travel lanes. Three occupants exited the vehicle and stood nearby. Shortly afterward, a second vehicle struck the stationary car, hitting two of the three individuals.

The impact caused the second vehicle to catch fire. DPS has confirmed fatalities, but the exact number of deceased and injured individuals remains unclear. Cleanup and investigations kept the westbound lanes closed for several hours before reopening early Saturday morning.
