GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Up to 15 vehicles were involved in a crash that closed eastbound I-96 near M-37 Monday morning. It reopened around 1.5 hours later.
Several vehicles were smashed in the median, a box truck was overturned and a semi-truck was wedged in the ditch.
Kent County dispatch confirms there were reports of injuries in the crash, but there were none life-threatening.
Michigan State Police say one person involved in the crash got out of their vehicle and was hit.
Troopers remind all drivers to stay in their vehicles if they are involved in a crash.
Low temperatures and hazy snow mixed to create difficult conditions for drivers. Troopers on the scene say there were white-out conditions at the time of the crash and that drivers involved were driving too fast.
The crash closed the stretch of highway near Exit 31A, by Alpine Avenue.
