LOUISVILLE, Ky. — All lanes of I-65 South are back open after they were shut down for hours Tuesday morning due to a multi-vehicle crash that killed a man.
Shortly after 1 a.m. on Tuesday, the Louisville Metro Police Department’s Seventh Division responded to a motor vehicle crash on I-65 southbound near the Grade Lane exit.
That’s near Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport.
According to preliminary investigations, a vehicle driving southbound lost control and struck the retaining wall and rebound onto the roadway.
The vehicle was then hit by two commercial vehicles and three additional passenger vehicles.
All vehicles involved stopped and remained at the scene.
Emergency Medical Services and fire officials were called to the site.
The man in the vehicle that initially hit the retaining wall was pronounced dead at the scene.
EMS took one adult from another vehicle to UofL Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. That person was conscious and alert.
The crash involved two semi-trucks and four passenger vehicles, including the fatal incident.
Crews had to shut down I-65’s southbound lanes for hours as they worked to clear the scene.
The LMPD Traffic Unit is investigating the incident, which remains in its early stages.
