Two pedestrians hit in Somerset County while standing beside disabled vehicle

JEFFERSON TWP. ― A woman was driving her car west on Glades Pike at 5:20 p.m. Dec. 21 when she saw a disabled truck alongside the road. She slowed down, only to be slammed from behind and pushed into pedestrians 428 feet east of Kimmel Road, according to state police.

Behind her, Reginia Bailey, 36, Somerset, driving a truck with two male teenage passengers, 15 and 17, had not slowed down and hit the back of her vehicle pushing it into the two pedestrians and the disabled truck, police said.

Bailey refused transport to a hospital for suspected minor injuries in the accident, according to the state police accident report. The teenage passengers in Bailey’s vehicle and the other driver were unharmed, police said.

One pedestrian was not injured, but the second pedestrian was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, police said. The disabled truck was damaged as were the other two vehicles. There is no information on the injured pedestrian at this time.

Bailey was cited for a summary charge of causing an accident involving injuries. She was taken into custody at the scene under suspicion of drunken driving, but the results of those tests are not yet available.
