A female driver was ejected from a vehicle after crashing into a median along Interstate 78, which then led to a tractor-trailer driver also striking the car, state police said.
Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Nathan Branosky, public information officer for the Troop M barracks, told lehighvalleylive.com the accident began just before 12:15 a.m. Sunday at mile marker 54.1 in Lower Macungie Township. It happened when the woman was headed south along Route 309 and attempted to merge onto I-78 east, Branosky said.
She then struck the center median, which caused her to become ejected from the car, he said. The vehicle came to rest on the west side of the highway.
Then, a tractor-trailer driver struck that vehicle stationed in the westbound lanes, causing the secondary crash, Branosky said.
The woman was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Salisbury Township for treatment of injuries. A condition was not immediately available Monday morning. The woman was the only occupant in the vehicle. The driver of the rig was not injured, Branosky said.
