SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — A 32-year-old Keyport man was struck and killed by an SUV early Monday morning after he exited his disabled vehicle following a multi-car crash on the NJ Turnpike in South Brunswick, state police said.
According to a preliminary investigation, around 4 a.m. Albert R. Masonius was driving a Nissan passenger vehicle southbound when it collided with a Toyota minivan. The impact disabled the Nissan, leaving it stopped in the center lane, police said.
Before that collision, a separate crash had occurred on the same stretch involving a Mazda SUV, a Honda SUV, and a Kia SUV. The Kia then struck Masonius’s disabled Nissan.
After the initial crash, Masonius got out of his vehicle and was standing in the left lane when a Toyota SUV traveling south struck him. He sustained fatal injuries, police said.
The driver and passenger of the Honda SUV suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to an area hospital.
The crash remains under investigation. State police said no additional information is available at this time.
