Man Killed After Exiting Disabled Car On Route 1

The driver of a sedan was struck and killed early Tuesday morning after exiting his disabled vehicle following a separate crash on Route 1 in Falls Township.

Falls Township police responded around 2:25 a.m. to the scene on Route 1 northbound, just north of the Route 13 overpass, for a report of a traffic crash involving a pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation found that a black Cadillac traveling north on Route 1 lost control at the overpass, striking the concrete lane divider before coming to rest in the middle of the highway, police said.

The Cadillac’s driver, a 38-year-old Trenton man, exited the vehicle. He was then struck by a Lexus ES3 sedan operated by a 30-year-old Trenton man, while standing outside the Cadillac, police said.

The struck driver sustained critical injuries and was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton.

The man was pronounced dead from his injuries at the hospital, police said.

There was a passenger in the Cadillac and they suffered minor injuries and sought medical treatment, police said.

The driver of the Lexus reportedly was unhurt.

Police said it is not known at this time if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the fatal incident, police said.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Christopher Iacono at 215-949-9104 or c.iacono@fallstwppd.com.
