Selma man hit, killed by 18-wheeler after car stopped by another wreck

A Selma man was killed when his vehicle was hit from behind by an 18-wheeler while he was stopped in the road because of a previous crash.

Alabama State Troopers identified the victim as Kenneth B. Watts. He was 41.

The wreck happened at 3:37 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. 80 in the Lowndes County city of White Hall.

ALEA Capt. Jeremy Burkett said Watts was driving a Buick LaCrosse that was stopped in the road after being involved in a previous wreck.

A Volvo tractor-trailer driven by 24-year-old Timothy A. Burgett of Hope Hull struck Watt’s Buick. After being struck by the Volvo, the Buick then struck an unoccupied 2013 Ford Fiesta, which was also sitting stationary in the roadway because of the earlier wreck.

Watts was pronounced dead on the scene.

Burgett was also injured and transported to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for medical treatment.
