GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. – Virginia State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash involving a fire truck in Goochland County.
According to police, the incident happened around midnight on Saturday, November 8, 2025, when State Police responded to a single-vehicle accident on southbound Route 288 at the James River Bridge. A sedan had reportedly struck the guardrail.
While Goochland Fire personnel were on the scene, with emergency lights activated, blocking the left travel lane, a second vehicle collided with the rear of their fire truck. The second vehicle, a sedan, was driven by 20-year-old Edgar Ruiz Carrillo of Midlothian, Va.
Carrillo suffered serious injuries in the collision and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. No firefighters were injured in the incident.
The driver of the initial crash was also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, which were unrelated to the secondary collision involving the fire truck.
Both crashes are currently under investigation by the Virginia State Police.
