Pedestrian struck and killed by SUV after exiting crashed vehicle on I-10

SAN ANTONIO — One person was struck and killed after they got out of their vehicle that crashed on IH-10 East and attempted to cross the highway.

The crash happened around 4:25 p.m. Wednesday in the 3400 block of IH-10 West near East Houston Street.

According to the San Antonio Police Department, a silver Audi sedan was involved in a single car crash on IH-10 East westbound in which the car veered off the roadway and stopped on the left grassy shoulder of the highway.

The driver exited the vehicle and started running across from the south side of the westbound highway towards the north side. He was struck by a Ford Edge SUV that was traveling westbound and went airborne.

After landing on the highway, his body continued to slide diagonally and finally came to a rest by the far north side of the highway pavement. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Ford driver cooperated with the police investigation and no charges are expected to be filed. The male has not been identified as of yet.
