WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Both directions of the Kansas Turnpike were closed between Emporia and Cassoday on Friday due to a crash.
The crash was reported just after 5 a.m. near Emporia.
It involved three semitrailers, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. Initially, the Kansas Turnpike Authority said some passenger vehicles were also involved, but the KHP crash log only mentions the semis.
According to the patrol, a disabled northbound semi was blocking the median and both driving lanes.
The trailer on a second semi hit the first semi, according to KHP. Then a third semi couldn’t stop in time and hit the trailer of the second semi.
KHP said one of the semis ended up draped over the median barrier.
Two of the drivers complained of pain, but troopers said only one — a 60-year-old man from Leon — was taken to a hospital.
The interstate was closed for most of the day. It was fully reopen at 6 p.m.
