FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A car overturned on Highway 99 Wednesday morning due to being hit from behind by a pickup truck that officials say was going at an unsafe speed.
According to California Highway Patrol, just after 6 a.m. on southbound Highway 99, north of Belmont Avenue, a vehicle was stopped in the center median due to a flat tire, causing traffic to back up.
Traffic was seen on Caltrans cameras at the time of the crash to be backed up to southbound Highway 99 near Clinton Avenue.
CHP says due to a pickup truck going at an unsafe speed and unable to slow down they hit the back of another car. The other car ended up overturning and both vehicles ended up on the right shoulder.
Three drivers were involved and CHP reported that there were minor injuries.
CHP says they don’t believe alcohol contributed to this crash. According to CHP, this was just “simply, too fast in traffic.”
This is an ongoing investigation.
