Good Samaritan killed in multi-vehicle crash on I-90 in Spokane Valley

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash — A multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 90 near the Evergreen Road overpass left one person dead and caused significant traffic disruptions Friday afternoon, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

WSP says a car lost control due to the weather and hit the barrier. A second driver stopped to help when a third vehicle struck the person standing on the freeway. That individual was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but later died.

The crash occurred around 2:37 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-90, initially blocking two left lanes eastbound and three left lanes westbound. Emergency responders, including multiple state patrol units, Spokane County personnel, and Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) incident response teams, were on the scene.

The extent of other injuries remains unclear, and authorities have not confirmed whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. Sgt. C. Bassen and collision technician Trooper R. Tylock were among the officials responding to the incident.

WSDOT East and WSP say they expect the road to reopen within the next few minutes. Drivers are urged to remain cautious as traffic clears.
