Chesapeake driver killed after stopping on I-664 shoulder in Suffolk

SUFFOLK, Va. — Virginia State Police (VSP) say a man has died after a vehicle crash on the interstate in Suffolk Tuesday morning.

Officials say VSP responded to a two-vehicle crash around 1:15 a.m. and investigations showed that 39-year-old Corey L. B. Knight of Chesapeake was driving a 2023 Volkswagen GTI on I-664 S near College Drive when he pulled off to the right shoulder, activated emergency hazard lights and exited the vehicle.

At that time, a tractor-trailer drifted onto the shoulder and struck Knight and the Volkswagen. VSP says Knight died on impact.

VSP says there is no evidence of drug, alcohol intoxication, or speed factoring into the crash. The Commonwealth Attorney of Suffolk will investigate and determine if charges will be placed.
