OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Oconee County Coroner’s Office has identified a pedestrian killed on Sunday after being hit by a tractor-trailer on I-85.
The coroner identified the victim as 44-year-old Carlos Gutierrez-Guzman.
The coroner reports Guzman was driving south on I-85 when he lost control of his vehicle and hit a guardrail. The vehicle then stopped in the southbound lane of traffic before he exited onto the interstate.
The SC Highway Patrol reports a 2022 tractor-trailer freightliner was traveling south on I-85 around 4:10 a.m. when it hit Guzman who was standing in the southbound lane near mile marker two.
The driver was not injured while the Guzman succumbed to his injuries at the scene, troopers said.
He suffered from blunt force trauma injuries, the coroner said.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol reports no charges will be filed for this incident.
