One Dead in Skagit County I-5 Crash Involving Three Vehicles

Skagit County, WA — Washington State Patrol has confirmed a fatal three-car collision that occurred late Saturday night on southbound Interstate 5, just south of Milepost 225 in Skagit County.

According to WSP, the crash began when a driver allegedly lost control of their vehicle and struck the cable barrier. The vehicle came to a stop in lane two of the interstate. A second vehicle then collided with the stopped car and ended up facing the wrong direction while still blocking the lane. Moments later, a third vehicle struck the second.

Tragically, the male driver of the second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger from the same car was transported to Skagit Valley Hospital for treatment. Troopers say all other individuals involved were uninjured.

WSP confirmed that all drivers and passengers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Drugs or alcohol were not factors in the incident. Investigators say inattention to the roadway is believed to be the cause.

All three vehicles were declared totaled.
