Three killed in 11-car pileup west of Lordsburg

LORDSBURG, N.M. (KRQE) – Three people were killed in an 11-car pileup west of Lordsburg on Thursday, according to New Mexico State Police. The weather was a contributing factor, with heavy dust leading to a lack of visibility.

One of the victims killed in the crash, 45-year-old Joseph Malley, was from Lordsburg. The other two victims, 52-year-old Douan Fernandez and 37-year-old Alexander Acosta, were both from Florida.

According to New Mexico State Police, the crash occurred at around 8 a.m. on eastbound I-10. As a result, I-10 was shut down in both directions between Lordsburg and the Arizona border for the majority of the day on Thursday. Drivers were diverted onto U.S. 70 from Lordsburg, but cameras on NMRoads.com showed that many drivers were stuck on I-10 while crews worked to clear the crash.
