Wilmington, DE – Man Killed in I-495 Crash Near Rte 13

Wilmington, DE (March 24, 2025) – Emergency responders were quick to the scene, providing care and managing the aftermath of a fatal collision early Monday morning on I-495 northbound near the US Route 13 exit in Wilmington. The crash, which occurred around 4:57 a.m., involved a silver 2011 Ford Fusion that was disabled in the center lane and a gray 2019 Jeep Comanche traveling in the same direction.

According to Delaware State Police, the driver of the Ford Fusion, a 35-year-old man from Darby, Pennsylvania, had exited his vehicle and was standing in front of it when it was struck from behind by the oncoming Jeep. The force of the collision pushed the Ford forward, fatally striking the man before the vehicle continued into the guardrail. The driver of the Jeep, a 34-year-old woman from Newark, was not injured.

Authorities pronounced the man dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The northbound lanes of I-495 were closed for approximately 4.5 hours as police conducted their investigation and crews worked to clear the wreckage.
