COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 22-year-old man was killed in a crash involving a semitrailer on Interstate 71 near downtown Columbus Wednesday morning.
Jahara Tunkara was driving a Nissan Rogue northbound near the Interstate 670 interchange around 1:40 a.m. when he came to a stop in the moving lanes of the freeway and remained stationary, according to the Columbus Division of Police. The reason why he stopped is still under investigation.
While he was stopped, police said a semi heading in the same direction hit the back of the Nissan. Tunkara was taken to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries at 2:23 a.m.
All lanes on I-71 North beyond I-670 West were closed for several hours as a result of the crash.
The incident remains under investigation.
