Crash becomes hit-and-run after disabled car is hit from behind by unknown vehicle

EDWARDSVILLE, Kan. (KCTV) - An early-morning wreck involving just one car turned into a hit-and-run, law enforcement officials reported.

The Kansas Highway Patrol responded to the scene — located in a construction zone on Interstate 435 and just south of Swartz Road —around 4:50 a.m. on May 24.

A 20-year-old Topeka man was driving north on I-435 when he went off the left side of the road and crashed into a median barrier wall, disabling his 2018 Hyundai Elantra. He was then hit from behind by another car that did not stop.

KHP does not have a description of the hit-and-run vehicle or its driver.

The Topeka driver was wearing a seatbelt and sustained what were believed to be minor injuries. He was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center’s emergency room.
