MD woman, 21, dead after losing control on wet road, hitting tractor-trailer on I-81

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — A young woman died on Interstate 81 Wednesday morning after she lost control in the rain and crashed into a tractor-trailer, according to state police.

PennDOT confirmed that around 3 a.m., a car struck the back of a tractor-trailer around mile marker 79.5 in East Hanover Township, which is the exit ramp for the rest area, said.

Troopers said the driver of the car, a 21-year-old woman, lost control on the wet road before driving onto the right shoulder and hitting the parked tractor-trailer.

The Dauphin County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Joscelynne Pannone from Maryland. Her cause of death was found to be multiple traumatic injuries, and her manner of death was ruled accidental.

State police said a person inside the tractor-trailer was not hurt.

The wreck closed all southbound lanes between Exit 80: PA 743 -Grantville/Hershey and Exit: PA 39 - Manada Hill/Hershey for hours before they reopened around 6:45 a.m.

The fatal crash is still under investigation.
